My  name is Katrina Evans.

Qualifications - I am a qualified Counsellor (Dip. Couns, Registered MBACP) with a Diploma in Integrative Humanistic Counselling (Person Centred, TA and Gestalt).  My course was in relational counselling but included some modules of CBT also. I trained at the The Wealden Psychology Institute in Crowborough, an independent college known for its excellence.  I am a Registered Member of the NCS (National Counselling Society). I also have BA (Hons) degree in French and Spanish.  I offer affordable counselling sessions  to individuals in the Neath and Swansea areas, as well as online. 

 

I work with individuals (not couples) aged over 16 in general counselling, based on a one to one relationship of trust. As a Person-Centred Counsellor,  I listen to you without judgement giving you the space to know yourself better.  I work mainly through our relationship, however, sometimes, and if you wish, I can also include some aspects of the CBT model, and/or creative work. I want to help people move through their past to find their real self. I recognise that many of the negative coping skills we choose in life are a way to avoid dealing with emotions we feel, especially pain. My goal is to help people understand this, learn new skills to tolerate what they feel and be empowered to manage their life in a more healthy way.

 

The counselling room is set in a woodland garden, and I believe this setting makes a difference to the counselling process. People who have come to see me here certainly often say it has made a difference to them.

 

My  background before training as a Counsellor has given me over 20 years experience of working with the Careers Service in East Sussex where I helped adults and young people to find work and training, as well as supporting and encouraging them to have confidence in themselves.  Before that, I worked in a very different arena helping organise business technology conferences and exhibitions in the 1980s.  

My counselling experience includes:

•working in St Michaels Hospice in Hastings, East Sussex

•working with teenagers

•a general counselling centre (Summerhayes in Lewes, East Sussex)

•Brighton LGBT Advisory Centre ( Brighton Switchboard)
